Welcome to CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) Mod 2 case studies. Mod 2 forms part of four initial modules. All modules must be completed before you can apply for your Drivers and Digital Tachograph Card. Once completed the result will be published on your DVLA driver’s summary.
Gaining your Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) will consist of you completing 4 modules within the first 2 years of your LGV journey. Any individual module taken has a lifetime of 2 years before it expires. Once you have completed all 4 modules and gained the CPC you can apply to the DVLA for your Drivers and Digital Tachograph Card. Once you have achieved this, to retain your CPC you must complete 35 hours of continuation training every 5 years. Most people will look at doing 1 day (7 hours) each year.
This section covers CPC Module 2. It will show you how the tests are structured and give you direction to successfully completing this module. The test must be booked through the DVSA online at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test The test will last 1 hour 15 minutes and will be taken at a DVSA testing centre. It is important that you carry out training prior to undertaking this test.
The Module 2 Case Studies Test involves a series of questions based on real-life scenarios that a student may encounter during their day-to-day work as the driver of a large goods vehicle or bus. The test is made up of seven case studies consisting of between 5-10 questions.
You will have to answer 50 questions over a period of 1 hour 15 minutes, achieving a pass mark of 80%. In layman’s terms that is 40 correct answers.
Before attempting this test, you must have a full understanding of the rules and regulations concerning LGV and bus drivers. As MOD 2 is aimed at new drivers it will be very difficult to relate your experience in answering the questions based on the scenarios.
Below are links to practice scenarios that have several questions relating to each one. The scenarios can include drivers’ hours, vehicle loading and general rules of the road. As you are starting a new career it will be difficult for you understand all the different elements as you do not have the relevant experience.
Following on from the practice scenarios are a series of lessons that hopefully will enhance your knowledge base and, at the same time, answer the questions you have not quite understood in the practice scenarios.
Once you have completed the practice scenarios and lessons you can then move onto the practice tests in preparation for the official DVSA test. These tests are timed and will not give you any answers until the completion of each test.
Once you are confident then book that test!
