TOWBARS, TRAILERS & CARAVANS

Before we look at trailers and caravans, it is important to make sure that your vehicle is capable of towing. Has it the correct Kerb weight in relation to the trailer or caravan you wish to tow. Is your vehicle capable of having a tow bar fitted. You may find it difficult to get a tow bar fitted if your vehicle is to small. Below is a link to a professional family owned business. I have dealt with the tow bar man and can report a very professional service in all aspects.  For advice and guidance click on the link below.

In1997 the regulations changed for category Cat B holders, you were no longer entitled to Cat B+E grandfather rights, you would need to take a Cat B+E test. The good news for a lot of people is that you can actually tow a trailer on a Cat B licence, and you do not need to take the additional B+E test. However you are restricted by the Maximum Authorised Mass of the trailer. You can tow a trailer up to 750kg maximum authorised mass on your car licence. Below is a an extract from the current legislation.
A full car licence already lets you tow trailers weighing no more than 750kg. You can also tow heavier trailers with a car as long as the total weight of vehicle and trailer isn’t more than 3,500kg.
One of the first things that you must do if considering doing this is to check your vehicles towing capacity.
There are some useful picture links below, that will take you to just a few companies that offer affordable trailers. You could also try Preloved uk and Gumtree.

Choosing a caravan can be one of the most time consuming and frustrating experiences you will encounter. With so many different makes and models to choose from, you really need to have an initial idea of what will suite your family needs and pocket. Below are links to caravan finder and auto trader. Both have comprehensive data bases that will help you eliminate the ones you don’t like. Dealers often have good local deals, one in particular is the Swindon caravan group. Be very careful if you are buying private, as you will not get a warranty and worse it could be stolen.
